Ever wanted to wield a sword in melee combat?
Ever wanted to hold a shield line against an advancing army?
Do you like history and/or medieval fantasy?
Do you enjoy spending evenings around a fire with your friends and sharing a pint and stories of valor and heroism?
If you’re bothering to look at this site the answer is probably already yes. Or, at least maybe.
Dagorhir is a full-contact sport of medieval combat re-creation borrowing aspects of both history and fantasy. On a Dagorhir battle field you are just as likely to face down a horde of Orcs as you are a Roman legion. Or, you might be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with them against an allied force of Elves and Knights Templar. We were featured during the first season of the Discovery Channel's Wreckreation Nation (video Part 1: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS3YpCixS8g and Part 2: www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3pp4Gl9yEE ).
Dagorhir Battle Systems (www.dagorhir.com), a national organization run by and for its member Realms and Units, provides a rule set for combat, weapon construction and use, and persona and garbing guidelines (found here: www.digitalbonsai.com/dagrules-draft/MOA-2008.pdf). All of which provides for a safe full contact combat experience.
Dagorhir members come from all walks of life. We have laborers, college students, professionals, local, state, and federal employees, and even housewives/husbands. You don’t have to even necessarily be interested in fighting. For many, Dagorhir is a family affair, with one member fighting, another being an artisan, another a garb-maker, and even one more serving as a bard.
On the shores of Lake Erie (Erie Co., PA) there are currently three units representing the Realms of Dagorhir.
The Sunhawks (www.sunhawks.webs.com): A mercenary unit generally allied with the Realm of Angaron . . . unless someone offers them a better price. Sunhawks are based in Erie/Edinboro.
The Iron Hills Clan (ironhillsclan.com): A unit of loyal warriors from the Northern reaches of Angaron. Iron Hills Clan is based in North East.
Blood Horde (bhnwpa.weebly.com): A clan of warriors, artisans, and scholars allied with the scattered Kingdom of Mirkwood, and loyal to the Royal House of Mirkwood. While Blood Horde is primarily based in the Shire of Byzantium (Southern Illinois), a presence has been established in Erie.
Interested in joining us? Or, maybe you just have a few more questions. The Units can be contacted individually through the above links. General questions can be directed to eriedag@gmail.com, or posted in the Newcomer Questions thread. Or, come out to one of our practices. See the Practices thread for current times and locations.
Please note: If you wish to join in our practices you will be required to sign the Dagorhir Waiver and to be able to provide proof of age. If you are under the age of 18 this waiver will need to be signed by your legal guardian and notarized before you will be allowed to fight. Additionally, at least the first time you come out you will need to have a legal guardian present. This is so we can explain everything to them and answer any questions they may have (and convince them that you’re not going to be spending your rime with a bunch of crazy people).
